What is Digital Europe?

Information and communication technologies (ICT) are everywhere: at home, at work, at play. Such ubiquity forces us to ask questions including, ‘What good does it do? Does it harm society? Can it benefit the environment?’

In 2001 three research institutions in Germany, Italy and the UK joined with 11 international corporations and two European regions to investigate these questions further with funding from the European Commission’s Information Society Technologies Programme (1998-2002). This work has coincided with increasing interest in corporate social responsibility and twin commitments from the EU to become the most competitive knowledge economy by 2010 and to integrate sustainable development across all policy areas.

This website provides reports developed during the project, news about the subject area, interviews with leading experts, presentations from the project's final conference and all the final project reports, free to download.
